Bits and Pixels in the Backyard
Jacob Talbot—17th August, 2009 | Leave comment
Bits and Pixels on the 15th was a huge success with guest speaker (and long time attendee) Paul Hempsall discussing 'Backyard', the newly launched intranet for Lake Macquarie city council. He spoke about what new features that have been put in place, along with what challenges he faced for the two years that he spent developing the site.
After introducing us to Backyard, and giving us a little history lesson about himself, Paul spoke about the new search feature in the intranet, the Staff Finder, and how the intranet has been given a social presence within the council via staff tagging. He also spoke about the changing of design to relate to the season, such as Christmas or Easter.
As usual, many of the regulars turned up, along with a few first timers, which made this Bits and Pixels the biggest (and best) so far this year. After his presentation we then headed outside to enjoy the rest of the day with a few beverages, discussions and bistro food.

We would like the thank Paul for presenting Backyard to Bits and Pixels, and showing us what he has been working on for the last two years. Next month should be a great presentation from Anthony Short (http://twitter.com/anthonyshort) about the Fix Outlook campaign (http://fixoutlook.org/).
